![]() ![]() Another thing that doesn't help with how this arc has been technically villain-less (given Faba only held the role briefly, was very pathetic, and he wasn't even actually evil) which contributes to an odd sense of stakes in spite of the current situation.Another issue I had with the episode would be that the fight scenes were, as is sadly the norm in SM, very weak in choreography and very brief in duration, simply being exchanges of moves with not much strategy involved that don't even last that long: we barely get one minute of screentime of Kiawe VS Salazzle, for one, and I actually felt like Turtonator VS Marowak in the Akala arc felt like a better fight. Like Lillie's attire change, this seems like an artifact of the game plot that doesn't quite fit the way they changed the pieces for the Anime, but was kept in because 'the games did it', at least in my opinion. Also doesn't help that unlike how things seemed from the preview, the Motherbeast still doesn't fight herself, at best creating obstacles. If you are gonna use her abomination-like form only to have her basically act like a Damsel in Distress all the same in concept, I feel like there's missing something here. Among them, there's the way the Motherbeast was handled: while I'm glad they didn't force her to be exactly like her game self which would've felt extremely forced, I don't really get much of a sense of threat from her either as she keeps wanting to escape Ash and the others, which kinda cheapens what the Motherbeast meant in the source material. Nfs undergroundAlso, I feel it would've helped if we saw more of Lillie and Clefable's friendship aside from pictures and one discussion with Lusamine early on to make this scene feel stronger, but as far as Lillie's messy arc goes, this is a good scene overall and one I don't have much complaints about. What I do have complaints about, though, is the fact that they put Lillie to deal with Clefable and left Ash and Nebby alone to rescue Lusamine, which goes counter to Lillie's determination to save her mother, and I feel it would've made far more sense to have Lillie and Ash be the last ones reaching for Lusamine, especially given this has for better or for worse Lillie's arc and forcing Ash as the focus feels jarring even if he's the protagonist of the show, given how this arc has flip flopped in how important he was to the story. Considering Kiawe and everyone else was allowed a serious fight, I don't get why they were stuck filling SM's comedy quota in the one episode that didn't need it.I'm also heavily split on Lillie, though part of it is how I still feel her Anime arc is a bit of a garbled mess: on a vacuum, her 'battle' with Clefable actually works well and is in line with what I actually wanted her to do two episodes ago, take matters in her own hands to show she's more determined, and while as a heroic and awesome moment it works very well, I don't feel it gels much with her arc given this Lillie has always had some backbone or tried her best from the very beginning, and as I said I don't think she really 'earned' her regained ability to touch Pokémon. It also doesn't help that by having Litten and Rowlet save the trio and their Pokémon from the impromptu hula session it also kinda cheapens the 'we'll buy you time' effect they were going for, since in the end it's Ash's Pokémon that ends up helping them rather than them helping out Ash and the Aether siblings move on towards Lusamine. ![]() No struggle, no buildup, and the animation was also pretty lack-lustre in my opinion (perhaps due to how rushed the whole battle was).
